
On 05 May 2021, the Australian Government announced that it will have a special visa arrangement to support Myanmar nationals currently in Australia to extend their Australian visa until it is safe to return home. Each Myanmar national holding a temporary visa in Australia would be contacted by the Australian Government with further advice on the special visa arrangements.
The Australian Government has condemned the ongoing violence in Myanmar which commenced in February 2021. The introduction of these special visa arrangements for Myanmar nationals is consistent and in line with the international obligations of Australia. These options have not been specifically described or launched yet.
