Applying for a 482 Visa Australia (Skills in Demand, SID) involves a multi-stage process. First, the sponsoring business must be approved as a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS). The business then lodges a nomination for the role, followed by the visa application by the prospective employee.
At Brightstone Migration, we are proud to share another example of what a well-prepared Standard Business Sponsorship application can achieve. We recently assisted a growing Sydney automotive repair business in securing SBS approval in just 3 days of lodgement, well inside the Department of Home Affairs’ published processing range of 24 days to four months for this stage.
A Young Business on the Move
Our client is a family-run automotive repair business based in Sydney, offering mechanical servicing, repairs and vehicle safety inspections. Since incorporating in late 2025, the business has expanded quickly: it obtained its Motor Vehicle Repairer Licence, secured appointment as an Authorised Inspection Station, and built a genuine, growing customer base within its first year of trading.
To keep up with demand, the business needed to bring in an experienced motor mechanic from overseas. It engaged Brightstone Migration to prepare its Standard Business Sponsorship application, together with the nomination and visa application to follow.
The Challenge: Standard Business Sponsorship Application for a Newly Established Business
Recently established businesses are held to particular scrutiny in an SBS application. The Department wants clear evidence that the business is genuine, actively trading and financially capable of meeting its sponsorship obligations — not merely a vehicle created to facilitate a visa.
This case presented an added complication. Although turnover exceeded $240,000 in the business’s first completed financial year, its financial statements also recorded an operating loss — a common feature of a new business absorbing establishment costs, but a fact that can attract closer attention if it is not properly explained.
Our Strategic Approach: A Complete and Contextualised Evidence Package
Rather than leaving the Department to draw its own conclusions from the raw financial statements, we worked with the client and its accountant to present a complete and clearly contextualised picture of the business from the outset.
Establishing a genuine operation
We compiled evidence confirming the business was properly structured and licensed to operate, including:
- Company registration
- Relevant licences
- Official appointment and qualifications
Demonstrating growth
We supported the application with financial evidence demonstrating a business actively growing rather than standing still.
We also provided a clear explanation of why the business needed to nominate an overseas worker and addressed potential concerns arising from the company’s financial history to anticipate scrutiny by the Department. Our goal is always to minimise friction for the business and maximise the prospect of success.
The Result: Approval in 3 Days
The Standard Business Sponsorship application was lodged on 28 August 2026. The Department approved it on 31 August 2026 — a total of just 3 days — without any request for further information.
The approval is valid for five years, giving the business a solid platform to plan its workforce well beyond this first nomination. This outcome allowed the business to move directly to preparing its nomination and the overseas technician’s visa application, with no lost time waiting on the sponsorship stage.
Why This Matters
A young business with significant capital expenditure is not an easy SBS candidate. This case shows that with the right evidence, presented in the right way, even a business still in its establishment phase can secure a fast and favourable outcome.
The key was not simply supplying documents but anticipating what the Department would question and answering it before being asked.
If your business is considering sponsoring overseas talent, or you are concerned that your business’s financial history may complicate an SBS application, Brightstone Migration can help you prepare a strong, decision-ready application from the outset.
